SLOVENIAN MESSAGE FOR INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY 2026

The Slovenian ITI Centre, the Contemporary Dance Association of Slovenia, the Slovenian Ballet Artists Association, and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities Republic of Slovenia have this year invited choreographer Mateja Bučar, recipient of the Prešeren Award for Life Achievements, to write the message for International Dance Day 2026.

April 29, 2026, 13h – 23h 

On the occasion of International Dance Day 2026, Ljubljana will once again transform into an open dance venue.

The programme will unfold in front of the Modern Gallery and the National Gallery, extending through the paths and corners of nearby parks – from the park by the Orthodox Church and the underpass leading to Park Tivoli, to the playground and the Jakopič Promenade, as well as Celje, in front of the central library starting at 5 pm, and in Škofja Loka, with a meeting point at 6 pm at Cankar Square.

Moving Balkans Open Call for Artists (2026 Showcase, Novi Sad, Serbia)

Moving Balkans is a contemporary dance platform bringing together dance organizations  from the Balkans. Our aim is to elevate and support contemporary dance by raising awareness, producing  dance works and organising educational activities for dance professionals from the Balkans. We collaborate to support artistic mobility, co-creation and empowerment through capacity building, mentoring and fruitful synergies.

After the successful first edition of the Moving Balkans Contemporary Dance Showcase, held  in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Rijeka (Croatia) and Zagreb (Croatia) between 10–13 May 2025, the second edition of the showcase will be held in Novi Sad (Serbia) from 13–16 May 2026. The festival will present 10 contemporary dance productions, and 6 Dance Scape project pitches from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye and offer opportunities to meet,  exchange ideas, interact with the audience and dance professionals, and become part of a large artistic network.

The Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia (CDAS) is a voluntary association of professionals in the field of contemporary dance in Slovenia (dancers, choreographers, pedagogues, theoreticians and critics) whose aim is to form and realise their professional interests: the establishment of a space for communication, raising awareness, building a tradition of contemporary dance in Slovenia and an all-round development of the area of contemporary dance and the conditions for professional creative activities in Slovenia.
